The E-Cloud Project

OMNETRIC has been tasked with the development of an app to visualize energy consumption and local production for ORES, the biggest distribution grid operator of gas and electricity in Wallonia, Belgium.

The challenge

In a move to combine the efforts of local energy communities, ORES strives to enable a collective self-consumption for business that could help lower their electricity bill up to 14%.

The vision of neighbours joining forces to produce and consume local renewable energy in Wallonia is being turned into reality by ORES with the collective consumption initiative called “E-Cloud”.

Our approach

Siemens and OMNETRIC, in close collaboration with low-code application development platform EDGE2WEB, had been tasked with the visualization of local consumption and production

On dashboards in the customer’s design structure were created on a cloud-based, open IoT operating system. Via IoT Timeseries and IoT TS Aggregates Service, the timeseries data for production and consumption were calculated and displayed on a chart.

The result

As a result, KPIs for self-consumption of individual customers and benchmarking with the total score of all customers are available, making it easier for local energy community to adapt consumption behavior to minimize costs.

This project is ongoing with additional value-adding implementations taking place continuously, for example the integration of operational optimization algorithms for self-consumption.

The client

ORES
In Wallonia, Belgium, ORES and its team of over 2,000 employees is the biggest distribution grid operator of gas and electricity. A total of over 1.3 million households and companies are supplied daily which leads to a coverage of 75% of Wallonia’s municipalities. In regard of current upheavals in the energy sector, ORES counts on its values to prepare for the future of the grid and fulfil its service to the public.
