Improvement of maintenance decision making

Siemens and OMNETRIC help to improve maintenance decision making through the smart use of available data

The challenge

Since the customer did not benefit from its traditional approach to making grid maintenance decisions, the overall challenge was to improve maintenance decision making through the smart use of available data.

At first, suitable existing internal data had to be identified and preprocessed. After that, the discovered data had to be combined with publicly availably external data.

The approach

Siemens and OMNETRIC set up a team of local experts, nearshore consultants, and experts from the offshore delivery team to integrate the client's internal data sources.

This included asset data from the customer's SAP system and incidents from its outage management solution. The team then enriched the data with a number of external data sources, such as weather and forest reports. Artificial Intelligence learns from the past and predicts not only outage probability, but suggests the most appropriate and cost-effective maintenance measures.

The result

The customer is now starting to make maintenance decisions based in part on our system’s recommendations.

The client is not only able to practice improved maintenance planning that complements their decision making but also benefits from multidimensional evidence and investment protection. With this solution, the prediction accuracy for failures at named assets increased extremely as well as their flexibility for grid inspection work.
